OPaL Cricket Team Wins Dhirubhai Ambani Memorial Cricket Trophy 2022-23

The ONGC Petro additions Limited (OPaL) cricket team emerged as the winners of the Dhirubhai Ambani Memorial Cricket Tournament 2022-23 defeating United Phosphorus Limited (UPL) by 5 wickets in the final match held at Saraswati Township, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), Dahej, Gujarat.

OPaL won all five league matches and made a remarkable win by 57 runs against strong opponent Megmani Finechem Ltd. in the quarter-final. In the semi-final match against Filatex Limited, OPaL performed exceptionally well by setting a target of 158 runs, with impressive batting by Rashesh Shah (35 runs), Bharghav Joshi (30 runs), Bhavesh Gohil (25 runs) and Virendra Mahida (26 runs). The team's bowling was exceptionally well, restricting Filatex Limited to just 116 runs thus securing a crucial 42-run victory for OPaL.

During the finals, UPL was bowled out for 115 runs in 19 overs, batting first, with Rajendrasinh Solanki taking four wickets in an excellent bowling spell. OPaL chased the target comfortably in 13 overs with Rashesh Shah's knock of 51 runs from 39 balls and Gaurav Patel's 23 runs from 21 balls. OPaL's top order got off to a flying start and maintained the momentum throughout the innings, leading to a thumping victory.

Rashesh Shah from the OPaL team was named the Man of the Match for his all-round performance of hitting 51 runs of 39 balls and claiming 1 wicket with just 8 runs in 3 overs.

The OPaL cricket team led by Captain Rajendrasinh Solanki was awarded with the champions trophy by Shri Arup Jhampri, COO-OPaL, and Shri Shailesh Nigam, Site Head of Reliance, Dehej.

Shri Gurinder Singh, Managing Director-OPaL congratulated the team for their consistent performance throughout the tournament and for winning the championship trophy. He reflected on the importance of sports in building character and values in us. One learns the importance of teamwork, listen to all views, and finally keep differences aside for the only goal. It also teaches us how to handle success and failures.
