Polymers - HDPE

High Density Polyethylene, often abbreviated as HDPE, is one of the most popular thermoplastic materials available today. With a very high strength to density ratio, this enormously versatile polymer is used in the production of plastic containers, carrier bags, cable insulation, plastic toys, household and kitchenware and more.

HDPE is known for its high-temperature resistance, stiffness and superior water vapour barrier properties when compared to Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE). Even though the density of HDPE is only slightly higher than that of LLDPE, HDPE has a low degree of branching, resulting in stronger intermolecular forces and tensile strength as compared to LLDPE.
